Bow hunter Alex Goguen bags 11th Massachusetts deer
Alex Goguen, noted speed skater turned bow hunter with the Central Berkshire Bowmen, shot his 11th bow deer this fall on Mt Greylock as Massachusetts archery season opens. He has also killed 38 by rifle or shotgun since boyhood in Maine, credits practice on a deer target for his bow accuracy, and notes quiet, patient hunting as key. Vermont and New York deer seasons followed, with Connecticut plans undecided. Vermont Fish and Game forecasts a 15000 to 16000 deer harvest during an 18 day season opening tomorrow. Deer tagging in woods before moving carcass is required to avoid trouble.

Mrs Hicks Portent of Times in Boston Schools
A Boston School Board chairwoman Mrs Louise Day Hicks uses neighborhood schools as a shield against de facto segregation. Her stance opposes city paid buses for open enrollment and clashes with district efforts, while Cleveland officials echo a similar neighborhood school stance. Her stance and rhetoric mark a broader urban education debate.
