Knoxville Launches GAY/WAY Downtown Renewal Project
Knoxville plans a 285000 dollar GAY/WAY renewal tying 42 Gay Street businesses into a heart of town shopping center. Privacy screens with cedar louvers for neighbor views
Build a durable western red cedar fence with a louver pattern to block sightlines from nearby houses while allowing wind to circulate. A screening section can be added to improve privacy without fully enclosing the yard.
Winter Best For Inside Remodeling
Winter offers better service and easier access to skilled help for indoor remodels. Projects like attic, basement, or porch transformations are feasible with simple steps such as sealing openings, subflooring with shiplap, and finishing walls with tongue and groove paneling using light colored West Coast hemlock or Douglas fir for a bright, compact space.
Wind Resistant Roof Shingles Protect Interiors
After a severe windstorm, homes with wind resistant roofing tend to suffer less interior damage. If the roof stays intact, heavy rains that often accompany hurricanes are less likely to infiltrate and ruin the interior, reducing costly damage. Homeowners who plan ahead by installing wind resistant shingles likely experience the greatest protection.

Enclosing Porch Adds Extra Room To Slab Home
A city secretary living alone converted an 8 by 10 foot front porch slab into a room. A contractor enclosed the space with hardboard siding and a built in batten, added windows, and wood grain interior paneling. The secretary did the painting herself, creating a dry indoor area for shoes and coats.
