Conte and Colleagues Seek Social Security Boost
Congressman Silvio O Conte joined 50 House colleagues in backing a bill to raise Social Security benefits by 15 percent, lift the minimum monthly payment from 55 to 80 dollars, and provide automatic increases to match living-cost gains. The proposal aims to lift about 1.4 million people from poverty and would be funded by surplus tax revenue and a higher tax base from 7800 to 10000 dollars.
