First in Nation Gas Energy System to Power Pittsfield Post Office
The Pittsfield post office on Fenn Street will be the nation’s first to use a self contained gas energy system supplying all building needs. Berkshire Gas Co will install two 330 kilowatt engine generators with waste heat recovery to provide lights, motors, and heating, with an auxiliary gas boiler for extreme cold and low electrical load. The project, approved by the Post Office Department, extends bids to June.
