Navy regrets benefits used up for Thresher kin
The Navy says all legally payable claims have been settled and paid to widows and survivors of the Thresher’s crew. A Bridgeport law firm said it was retained to seek compensation for dependents of some of the 129 sailors who died in the Atlantic in April 1963. The Navy noted payments include pay and allowances at the time of disaster and death gratuities, with monthly compensation possible under VA and Social Security rules.
