Stub-In Pipes Save Money When It Is Time To Expand
A house built with stub-in piping allows future expansion at lower cost. By preinstalling water lines for outlets in rooms like a family room, laundry, powder room, or patio sink, homeowners save on remodeling and labor later. When added, walls open at exact pipe locations, reducing plastering and fixture installation costs.
Model Planning To Be Subject Of Discussion
Washington conference by the National Association of Home Builders will present model laws from the NAHB-ULI land-use program. The proposed laws would allow higher density housing on reduced-size clustered lots with parkland, aiming to modernize zoning for planned residential development. Representatives from government, law, planning, and industry are invited to participate.

NAHB Backs Benefits for Cold War Vets
The National Association of Home Builders backs extending veterans readjustment benefits to Cold War era service between Jan 31 1955 and July 1 1987. NAHB president Perry E Willits urged loan guarantees and direct loans to support home and farm purchases, noting the 1944 postwar loan program helped millions with modest incomes while costing little to the federal treasury. Eligible veterans must have 280 days service or be released within the period specified.

Bring Spring Indoors With Fresh Paint Colors
Spring signals in gardens spur a home decorating idea to refresh interiors with paint. Latex paints dry fast with little odor, while alkyds offer better hiding power for woodwork. Matching wall colors to trims creates an illusion of space, and contrasting tones highlight shelves or furniture. Gutters benefit from asphalt-base protection and an outside coat of paint, with yearly pitch checks.
