Plan to tax Medicare costs under new income tax scheme
Washington AP reports a proposed health care plan costing about 2.3 billion dollars with roughly 600 million charged to the regular budget. The measure seeks to recoup government contributions via an adjusted income tax and a payroll tax hike for hospitalization and nursing care. It envisions a voluntary major medical insurance funded by a 3 dollar monthly Social Security deduction, with government matching and no net cash loss for beneficiaries. The plan would reduce the basic personal exemption for retirees opting in.
