Forty Years of United Giving First Decade Prof senior UCS history
In April 1964 United Community Services marks 40 years since its roots in the Pittsfield Community Fund Association formed April 7 1924. The piece traces early fundraising led by Judge Charles L Hibbard and Charles W Power, the evolution from War Chest timing, and the 1930s shift to unemployment relief and the Social Service Index, culminating in the 1933 formation of the Pittsfield Council of Social Agencies and the unification that formed UCS.
