State Labor Board reins in questionable unions ruling
The New York State Labor Board ruled that an employer need not bargain with a union unless it proves itself a legitimate labor organization. The decision involved an independent self-chartered union in the Bronx seeking a contract, named Local 67%, United Independent Industrial Workers of America, and aimed to deter “questionable labor organizations.” In Washington, Sen. Frank Church introduced a wild rivers bill to protect stretches of the Salmon and Clearwater rivers in Idaho, the upper Green River in Wyoming, and the Suwanee River in Georgia, with inclusion of nine more rivers considered later.
