Rickover Warns Soviets Seek to Neutralize Polaris
Vice Adm. Hyman G. Rickover outlines in a four page letter that the Soviet Union is pursuing the capability to neutralize or destroy the U S Polaris submarine fleet. He notes recent rapid deployment of advanced Polaris type subs and other fast undersea craft, warning against assuming Polaris will remain invulnerable. Jackson cites Rickover to press for funding new subs and argues Moscow aims to destroy Minuteman Polaris and bomber forces alike.
