Amidon outlines Route 23 work in Monterey early 1971
District Engineer Dean P. Amidon said the Route 23 relocation through Monterey should start in early 1971. He noted the Great Barrington bypass likely won’t begin before 1975 and the Pittsfield bypass could start in 1972, with design work and right of way issues slowing progress. The 74 mile corridor has a defined route and engineers are finalizing the road design as delays are resolved.
