Israeli Jets Strike Guerrilla Targets in Jordan

Israeli jets attacked guerrilla positions at three sites in Jordan today, with one strike north of the Dead Sea near Shunat Nimrin and two south of the Sea of Galilee in the Beisan Valley after a border guard and soldier were wounded. Planes returned safely. no Israeli injuries were reported.

U S Helicopter and Fighter Downed Near Laos Border

Antiaircraft fire downed an American F103 fighter-bomber near the North Vietnam Laos border. Two hours later North Vietnamese MIGs shot down a rescue helicopter with eight Americans aboard. No details on survivors were immediately reported. North Vietnam claimed further air losses for U S raids on border provinces.

Avalanche Kills 35 on Iran Highway northeast of Tehran

An avalanche buried cars on the Amol highway 30 miles northeast of Tehran. At least 35 people died in the slide and over 400 were trapped as rescuers worked in 3 degree cold. The area remains nearly cut off after heavy snowfall.

Donahue pushes bilingual education post at Statehouse
