Berkshire Playhouse Rocks In a New Winter Program
Berkshire Theatre Festival extends its reach by opening the Berkshire Playhouse for winter use by local creative youth. A rock concert opened the season with about 130 attendees as Mark Parsons and four New York organizers seek to foster music and theater collaborations, including potential resident groups and film events. A one night performance of The Serpent by Jean-Claude Van Italie is planned with Marlboro College students, while plans for regular weekly theater and avant-garde screenings are discussed. In other news, conductor William Steinberg of the Pittsburgh Symphony, designated conductor of the Boston Symphony, has been hospitalized for medical tests forcing cancellation of three concerts this season.
