Snowshoe Trip Through Bartholomew’s Cobble Beckons History
A Berkshire trek around Bartholomew’s Cobble in the Sheffield valley offers a quiet winter exploration of Ashley Mountain. Feathery snow and muffled light create a netherworld mood as four generations of Hurlburns and Ashleys tended dairy, woodcutting, and orchards along Wood Road amid deer, chestnuts, and wild grapes.

Limits at Dusk on a Berkshire Snow Field
A reflective winter trek along Hurlburt's Hill near the Connecticut line imperceptibly shifts from landscape to philosophy. Snowbound birch, fox and deer traces, and a lone granite post with an M mark a 20 acre meadow as the horizon blurs into sky. The piece muses on borders, space, and preservation as the travelers press onward.
