Pittsfield Housing Outlook Hints at 1970 Struggles
The Berkshire Common issued a 1969 six million dollar building permit and Berkshire Community College faces a ten million dollar project in 1970. Analysts warn tight money and a General Electric strike will dampen single home starts while multi family units rise with Berkshire Life Insurance and Union Federal-Savings Bank backing apartment projects. Surrounding towns may see shifts as Pittsfield slows.
