Psychotherapy in Groups Called Dangerous
Dr Edward L. Pinney Jr warns at the American Psychiatric Association meeting in New York that group psychotherapy risks harm when candidates are chosen by type or residence rather than diagnosis. Some groups mix delinquent youths and other biased targets, risking unqualified laypeople leading discussions and misusing therapy resources. He notes some patients benefit from groups, while others resist individual treatment concepts and may drop out without consequences, and that peer corrections can replace therapist input.
