Otis Votes 2500 For State School Building Aid Probe
Otis town meeting approved 24 17 a $2500 appropriation to fund a formal inquiry by the School Committee into state aid for school construction and regionalization. Chairman George Dillman said funds cover mainly legal fees and contended SBAB has denied aid to towns outside 2000 pupil districts. The town builds a $318000 elementary addition without state aid. The effort targets SBAB director William B Black and seeks written explanations for aid denials. Critics said the move is tardy and may not recover funds, while supporters push related legislation to bar withholding aid from smaller districts. Austin Broadhurst to assist as counsel.
