Dodd Says DOJ Probe Finds No Basis for Prosecution
Senator Thomas J. Dodd announced the Justice Department told him an investigation of his income tax returns found no evidence warranting criminal charges. Dodd, censured in 1967 over use of political funds, said he was cleared after more than two years of investigation and plans to run again in 1970. Attorney General John N. Mitchell's letter disclosed the decision to Dodd’s lawyer, Edward Bennett Williams.
