Rail Unions Delay Strike Call Amid Wage Talks
Four AFL CIO shop craft unions representing machinists electricians sheet metal workers and boiler makers pledged not to strike before Jan 19 as negotiations resume. Industry vows no changes in working conditions during that period after a rejected tentative contract which would raise wages from 3.80 to 4.00 retroactive through 1969 and to 4.28 by next August. The dispute centers on work rule changes allowing cross jurisdiction for incidental tasks.
