Saratoga Arts Center Gets Two $50,000 Grants for Amphitheater
The Avalon and Old Dominion foundations each awarded $50,000 toward the 5,200 seat Saratoga Arts Center amphitheater under construction at Saratoga Spa. The center also extends the Jan 1 deadline for a $500,000 Rockefeller pledge and seeks $60,000 in private funds to unlock it. While costs rose to 3.61 million due to inflation and a lengthy local strike, fund-raising accelerates with a horse-stable bid auction and regional drives. The New York City Ballet opens the first Performing Arts Festival on July 9, 1966, followed by the Philadelphia Orchestra in August, with student matinees and weekend concerts.
