Pitts field office of the state Division of Employment Security reported a drop in claims from 735 to 685 last week, said manager Edward J. Barry. The same week last year saw 868 claims. Fifteen job openings were filled by the office's placement section.
Pfc Dennis V Bourquard son of Mr and Mrs Victor E Bourquard 27 Adam St is in a two week field training on Baumholder ranges in Germany. He serves as mail clerk with the 12th Engineer Battalion 8th Infantry Division and will qualify with his M 14 rifle. The exercise tests bridges and simulated combat scenarios near Dexheim. He entered the Army in May 1964 completed basic at Ft Dix and arrived overseas last October. The 22 year old attended St Josephs High School graduating in 1961 before joining the Army.
On Sunday and Saturday several small fires were reported including a high tension line sparking near 5 McKinley Terrace, a sofa burned at Wahconah Heights from a dropped cigarette, rubbish fires at 21 Hamlin Street and 45 Columbus Avenue, a cellar blaze at 45 Columbus Avenue with smoke filling the house, a false box alarm at Berkshire Coat Factory on 16 Gak Street, and a car fire in front of 145 Onota Street.
