Wilkes Buys City Land At Auction

Stanley J. Wilkes of 12 Whitehead Place purchased for 2530 a parcel of city land at Peck's Road and Curtin Avenue. The 6618 square foot site, bought at an auction overseen by Building Superintendent Harold Grandshaw, was once set for a fire station but never used. Wilkes beat two rivals, including William J. Nichols and Harry Zalutsky, who bid to 2100 and 2500 respectively. The C2 zoned lot may host a business venture. Wilkes has no firm plans. He already owns adjacent property and a four family house. Zalutsky hoped for a steam laundry site. Nichols exited at 2500. Two other bidders attended but did not bid.
