Musical anecdotes and mishaps from Carnegie Hall to Pittsfield

The piece recalls backstage mishaps and legendary figures in classical music. Isaac Stern adjusts after a broken string at Carnegie Hall. Bernstein conducts from the keyboard at Tanglewood. A violinist at a local concert wears a bead necklace that scatters marbles across the stage. Met soprano Itelen Traubel rehearses with high demands while Geraldine Farrar performs on tour. A jokey trio of old music-school stories end with a quip about Carnegie Hall. An autobiographical note recalls church music at the House of Correction where a prisoner quips, This wasn't in my sentence.
