Athenaeum Included in Pay Raises
Berkshire Athenaeum staff will receive the city two step pay raises retroactive to April 5, though library workers were not named in last week’s order. Librarian Robert Newman asked for a $7,081 supplemental appropriation to align library employees with other city staff. Mayor Dillon learned a blanket order already covered library raises. The library board approved buying a new bookmobile for about $8,000 from state funds and discussed $14,000 in state funds for library use, $6,000 cut from next year’s budget, and $8,000 for the new vehicle. The current bookmobile would be replaced after major repairs. The board noted completion of a 25th task toward new library needs. Open house set for May 14 with Friends of Berkshire Athenaeum. The Western Massachusetts Library Club will also meet that day at the Athenaeum.
