Racing permit refusal halts Berkshire Downs license bids

The Berkshire County Committee of 1,000 urged the state Racing Commission to deny 1964 licenses to Berkshire Downs Inc and the Berkshire County Fair Association Inc unless they provide substantial working capital. The letter was addressed to Attorney Amos E. Walgatt Jr of Worcester.

Ten Die in Helicopter Crash in Viet Nam Conflict

A US helicopter on a combat mission near Ca Mau in South Viet Nam crashed and burned killing three Americans and seven Vietnamese. The American co pilot survived in serious condition, evacuated to Saigon. The craft carried troops not armed, and the tail section broke off during the descent.

New Zealand Pledges Troop Aid to Malaysia Crisis

Prime Minister Keith Holyoake pledged Friday New Zealand would send troops to defend Malaysia if the Indonesia crisis deteriorates. Talks with Malaysian officials will start immediately on a two year aid package totalling 1.5 million dollars, including training and equipment.

The Army ordered the first production of the Redeye, a shoulder fired guided missile claimed as the world’s smallest. It homes on heat from aircraft engines, weighs under 30 pounds, and is issued in two launcher use with a limited two shots. MacArthur Cold War Plan to Rearm Enemies

South Carolina Rep. William Dorn says Gen. Douglas MacArthur outlined a post Korea strategy to threaten Stalin with full rearmament of Germany and Japan unless Moscow honored self determination for Eastern Europe. Eisenhower would play a central role according to Dorn, with the plan first described to Dorn in a 1956 interview.
