Record trout weighed 35 pounds opens in Naples Creek

A Conservation Department worker released a 35 lb 7 oz rainbow trout before the NY trout season opener in Naples Creek. Despite frigid 9 degree mornings and ice floes, anglers from Naples and Catharine Creek drew thousands, with highs of 10,000 at Catharine Creek in recent years. The day featured bumper-to-bumper angling but a modest overall catch as ice and cold hampered fishing. A 15 lb 3 oz rainbow caught by O G Lindall led the Catharine Creek haul, with a 13 lb 2 oz runner-up.
