Silversmith Skinger Builds Olympic Flame Pole in Stowe
In Stowe Vermont a gruff silversmith named Joe Skinger rants about skiers yet spends hours erecting and maintaining an Olympic flame monument for Billy Kidd and the U S team. He toils with local academy help, crafts silver rings, and displays bronze figures while urging conversation over leisure. His daughter Erika skis and he plans future museum showings.

Senator Frank Church Calls Korea Troop Withdrawal
Senator Frank Church of Idaho argues in The Nation that keeping two full combat divisions in South Korea totaling about 52,000 troops is demonstrably unsound. He urges a token force and greater mobility, criticizing Washington and the Army’s vested interest in preserving the status quo. Church says changes should come from the State Department, not the Pentagon, after his Far East tour.
