Terrible accident claims life of young shooter
Harry Barkdoll died after a 22 rifle discharged by neighbor boy Clifford Thompson, 10, in a pasture south west of town. The incident occurred Sunday noon during ground squirrel hunting. Clifford’s shot struck Barkdoll in the back, piercing his intestines. Barkdoll died at St. Luke's hospital Cedar Rapids at 10:45 p.m. Funeral held Tuesday. both families mourn with the community’s sympathy.

Boy Steals a Horse From Burke Brothers
Jesse Griffith, son of Geo. Griffith of east Vinton, stole a Burke Brothers horse Sunday night and traded it to Elliott Deardough for another horse. He rode out into the country and left the horse with Clarence Goodwin for the night. Deardough reported the mix up to Sheriff Youel after finding he had a better horse than expected. Deputy Seeley recovered the stolen horse and brought the boy to town.

On May 12 the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Frederick Neiman was celebrated south of Keystone. Eleven children attended with spouses and grandchildren, gifts totaling over a hundred dollars, and a special keepsake gold piece. Born in Germany and Denmark respectively, they married in 1835 and moved to Keystone in 1877, living on the Andrew Holst farm before their present home.
