Ned Hilyard Struck by Lightning on Round-Up Near Gibson Ranch

Ned Hilyard, a longtime Etz cattle hand, was struck on the back of the head by a lightning bolt while riding in a late round-up near the Gibson Ranch three miles from town. His horse was killed. he was unconscious but recovered enough to walk in the yard by the next day. The incident occurred as riders hurried to finish before darkness and rain, with the round-up centered at James Roberts’ ranch and Boquillas Company land.

Businessman and Mrs Smith Return From Seven Week Trip

A G Smith president of Cochise County State Bank and his wife arrived home Wednesday after a seven week eastern tour. They visited Eastport Maine where relatives live and stops in New York Boston and other Atlantic cities. They toured Henry Ford's factory in Detroit though Ford was away and returned by steamer from New York to New Orleans then home via the Southern Pacific.

Benson baseball team Nets Hem of Victory and Dance

The Benson ball team won its third straight game by defeating Bisbee 6 to 2, with left handed pitcher Robertson and Doc Bakers cited for credit. Willcox also beat Bisbee 2 to 1 on Labor Day in a close contest. A Monday night baseball dance at the Auditorium, with Dooley's Orchestra, drew about 150 couples and netted nearly forty dollars after expenses.
