Benson High School Opening Day Highlights Expanded Faculty

Benson Union High School enters its third term with a large enrollment and bright outlook. Principal H Robertson notes strong prospects as five teachers join the staff. Chas Buffington leads science from Los Angeles, Walter Gray handles manual training and athletics, Ida OBrien heads languages from Topeka, Opal Hughes directs home arts and Spanish, and Myrtle Snyder runs the commercial department. The board approved funds for building upgrades, new equipment, and a renovated campus.

St. David Items Noted Local Movements and Visits

Mr. M. W. Merrill and family are visiting and repairing their home. Francis Goodman and son returned from Patagonia where they worked. Farrell Nelson was bid farewell at the L. D. S. Hall. Margaret Busby and others drove to Patagonia Saturday. A. J. Busby returned with them but later went back. Netta Lofgreen hosted a Sunday night gathering. Banc Merrill visited Isabel Trejo in Benson.

Petition for Mandamus to Register Non Partisan Electors

S W White of Douglas filed a mandamus petition to compel the county recorder to complete elector registration for those listed as Non Partisan on the great register. The hearing before Judge Lockwood is set for this afternoon.

Frank Vaughn of Bisbee, a Democratic candidate for representative, spoke in town Wednesday. A former public school teacher and current painting contractor, he described old times and touted his debating and legislative experience, including chairing the county convention that backed initiative referendum and recall in the state constitution.

Miss Leona Morris of Thatcher in Graham county visits the Curtis home. Neighbors attend a Saturday party at Mrs. W. A. Johnson with games and guessing contests. Mrs. J T. Prohibition meeting on reform urged by W C T U

Mrs Grady Gammage of the W C T U led a Prohibition meeting at the R of P Hall assisted by Mrs Doane Merrill. The two toured the state promoting stricter enforcement of laws against the Demon Rum with a large audience in attendance. Mrs Merrill provided vocal selections and was praised for her singing. Summers wins first National Sportsman Cup shoot at 1000 yards

Elias Summers won the opening 1000 yard National Sportsman Cup shoot with 20 points. J. T. Proffitt placed second with 17, followed by Dr. H. E. Thompson, J. A. Nanney each on 15. The contest drew rifle enthusiasts to the range near Benson High School for a test of long range marksmanship. The second shoot is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 pm with new members welcome.
