El Cajon Mines Begin Working After Renewal of Effort

El Cajon property about 35 miles north of Benson at Soza Canyon has been acquired by S. S. Culver J. B. Hudson and Geo. Rieben. Nine claims yield lead copper silver with some gold and about fifty tons of ore on the dump ready for shipment to the El Paso smelter. The owners report ore grades of 30 to 60 percent lead 15 to 18 percent copper and up to 20 ounces of silver per ton.

Escape From Country With Apache Worker At Border

A man fled his homeland on foot and reached the border destitute, accompanied only by an Apache laborer who had previously worked for him in the mines.

High School Notes Highlights From Campus Activities

The High School notes report Mrs Buffington aiding the bachelor supper to ensure value for money. A new lead shot arrived for the shot put and Manual Training students built thirty hurdles for the track team. Senior English studies news writing and journalism. Grades are expected next week. Robbed Their Own Train Charged With Illegal Entry

Four Tucson men including C. A. Smith conductor and J. M. Demring G. H. Harrington and R. F. Herzog brakemen of Southern Pacific were turned over to the sheriff pending a federal hearing. Special Agent Roten reported whiskey found aboard and in a box car though the crew denied involvement. The incident occurred on a freight run through Gila Bend on March 14. The group faces federal charges. The Presbytery of Southern Arizona plans to meet Benson Presbyterian Church April 3 4 and 5 with about fifteen ministers expected.

An Enjoyable Social Affair Honors Mrs Powell in Benson

Mrs. Horace Merrill hosted a Tuesday afternoon party for Mrs. John W. Powell of Mesilla Park New Mexico a former Benson resident. Guests enjoyed tea sandwiches cake and readings of fortunes in tea leaves while a dozen young children added festive charm. Attending were numerous local residents and relatives with lively reminiscences shared by all. Also advertised were livestock listings including pedigreed Duroc Jersey pigs and a Jersey Heifer for sale by R W Boyle of St David.
