Red Cross Dance at Benson a Big Success

A Red Cross benefit dance at the Benson Auditorium last Saturday drew large crowds from Benson Tombstone Dragoon Huachuca Cochise Mescal St David and nearby towns. The Tenth Calvary Band from Fort Huachuca provided music and about 150 to 200 dollars was raised for the local Red Cross. L Williams led the planning and committees aimed for a smooth, enjoyable event with no rowdy behavior.

Campbell Declines Salary in Arizona House Vote

In Phoenix on June 6 a bill to appropriate 3,627.37 to pay former Governor Campbell for his term failed in the house. The emergency clause failed after a 16 to 15 vote. Some Campbell supporters opposed it, including two Republicans, citing his letter declining such an appropriation. The note mentions Governor Hunt having drawn a salary after the contest.

Benson Gets New Bridge Over San Pedro

A reinforced concrete bridge spans the San Pedro river east of Benson on the Benson Willcox highway. Built at a cost over 26000 by the Topeka Bridge Company, the 140 foot two arch span rests on a center pier with molded concrete railings. The county authorized the project in early year and now receives the completed work as a county credit.
