Benson Fourth Celebrated Strongly Despite Adversity

Benson’s Independence Day celebration, despite rushed arrangements and discouraging conditions, proved a big success with a peaceful day. The parade led by the Benson Band included Pomerene floats, local businesses, and Mexican American participants. A covered arbor hosted Rev. Jas E Ferris’s patriotic address, with a well-attended barbecue and busy refreshment stands. Burro roping, cow pony races, bronk riding, cigar and potato events, plus a lively evening ball, capped a community effort praised by organizers and attendees.
