Thomas Mahoney son of Mr and Mrs J T Mahoney enjoyed a surprise birthday party last Saturday hosted by family friends. The evening featured games dancing a tie in the guessing contest won by Rosa Lee Clark three prizes were awarded home made candy and refreshments prepared by Mrs Mahoney with help from Mrs Keen and Mrs Bard.
Mr and Mrs H W Etz and their son George recently back from Army service began a motor trip to the Pacific coast. They planned to spend Wednesday night with their daughter Mrs T Dempsey in Phoenix, then travel to California aiming for four days if all goes well. Mr Etz will stay part of the time at Marietta Springs and the party ultimately visits Mrs Will Grover and family in Van Nuys near Los Angeles for about a month.
The U S Senate passed a bill by Senator Ashurst granting private enterprises rights of way over national forests public lands and government reservations in Arizona to build pipelines and water conduits for livestock. The grants would last fifty years with government right to recover at expiration and the measure goes to the house.
The Land Settlement Congress for veterans was permanently organized in Salt Lake City after seven western state reclamation experts met since draft Saturday. Its aim is reclaiming millions of acres for discharged service members, focusing on 3,000,000 acres in the Colorado River basin. Resolutions backing Secretary Lane's plan passed, while a Newlands amendment committee appointment was rejected to avoid hindering Lane's work. Additional notes list officers and visitors including former Governor William Spry and John H. Fay. Tombstone hosts a masquerade tonight.
Washington January 21 The House passed the measure to make the Grand Canyon a national park and sent it to conference. The area covers 996 square miles now part of two forests and a game refuge. The proposal has faced Congress for thirty three years.
A plane passed over Tombstone at about 3 pm with a loud engine roar. The Tombstone Prospector notes talk of landing stations along the Phoenix, Tucson, Benson, Bisbee, and Douglas to El Paso route. Benson is already a frequent hover point, with hopes of mail facility expansion centered there.

In a disastrous hotel fire at No Gales last week Bud Craft brother of Mrs Jr A Gumm of this place was among the victims. He escaped poorly dressed losing his coat vest and other personal effects in the blaze.

Machinery installation begins immediately under Mr Daniells from Chicago with Mr Lee and Mr Fish assisting. ore bins and track progress ahead. Storage reservoir nears completion awaiting water fill.
The Red Cross social announces committees led by Mrs. J. T. Mahoney with Games chaired by Mrs. A. G. Smith and Mrs. J. C. Keen, Decorations by W. M. Dunbar and J. W. Cull, Refreshments led by Mrs. A. W. Bard and assistants, and Programs by Miss Anna Kempf and Miss Burroughs. Games start at 8, featuring whist and balance, with prizes for ladies and gentlemen. Jitney dance under Mrs. A. W. Bard.
