San Pedro Water Users Association forms for valley irrigation
A group of St. David citizens forms the San Pedro Water Users Association to promote a permanent valley water supply. Byron Merrill serves as president with L H Matteson treasurer, and William Goodman Alphonso Christenson and Bert Goodman as directors. The plan seeks bonds to fund a modern diversion dam and canal to harvest river water, extending irrigation from 1000 to about 5000 acres and ensuring water in both dry and flood seasons. The project is intended as a precursor to the Charleston Dam Project, with legal and engineering work underway and a Tucson delegation briefing officials.
