Cochise County Road Plan Moves Under New Board

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors vows a vigorous road improvement plan with in county tours next week to assess needs. Reorganization of the road department will see section by section work with July funding. Concrete work on the Benson Tombstone highway advances, including a major dip near Curtis Flat, under state guidance.

A message from G. S. Bilheimer in France to S. E. Lyndh, Arizona state director of collections, notes one Victory Hut in France will be named for Arizona for reaching its quota and a second hut for the state’s high oversubscription. Lyndh urges continuing effort to reach 100 percent of the $595,000 pledge.

Lieut. Lewis B. Maier recently back from San Francisco where he led the Medical College of the University of California inspired a pleasant gathering at Mr and Mrs J C Keen’s home Monday evening. A brief hour of dancing followed refreshments and Miss Burroughs performed readings and ukulele selections.

Alabama farmer praises county agent for 319 acre success

An Alabama farmer reports that two young sons earned a net $1,800 in a year from a 319 acre farm with help from the county agent. The agent advised on seed selection draining terracing pasturing and animal care and organized pig and calf clubs improving stock. He and his wife also boosted home canning by 500 percent in two years.

New War Savings Stamps Enter 1919 Series in Arizona

The January 1 1919 issue of War Stamps Phoenix reports the 1919 series on sale now and maturing January 1 1924. Prices start at 4.12 dollars and rise one cent monthly with stamps redeemable at 5.00 dollars at maturity. New blue stamps replace the 1918 series, and officers stock them for sale. Partial 1918 certificates remain valid. The Treasury plans thrift campaigns to continue through the year urging investment in war savings stamps.

Red Cross ends knit yarn distribution for wartime aid

Headquarters ordered a halt to issuing yarn to 3854 chapters as Red Cross warehouses stockpile enough knitted items for soldiers at home and abroad. Volunteers will complete current projects and ship them to the San Francisco division warehouse for distribution. Over 10 million knitted items had been produced in the seventeen months before the armistice.
