A successful masquerade ball in Benson raised about $100 for Red Cross work at the Auditorium. Attendees came from Tombstone Dragoon Johnson St David and nearby areas. An orchestra from Tombstone impressed attendees and a financial report will be published next week.
A January 30 farewell gathering in St David honored Lorenzo Wright who leaves for Douglas to take a strong position. F N Goodman and F W Duches offered praise, with singing, readings and dancing adding to the program. Wright is praised as energetic and industrious likened to Abe Lincoln and Washington. A town sale advertises 40 acres near town with a flowing well priced at $1,000 with half cash and easy terms through the Signal Office.
Hon. W G McAdoo urges Cochise County State Bank Benson Ariz to reserve about one percent of gross resources weekly for Treasury Certificates of indebtedness to aid war financing. He emphasizes broad distribution, national economy, and full banking cooperation to support American troops and government needs.
The Pomerene Poultry Club led by Mrs. Proffitt won the State Championship in the Poultry Contest for the third straight year. Members Clara McGuire Ellen Scott Florence Coons Sophronia Scott and others earned multiple state and county prizes as the district leader praised their work and urged continued club effort.
A reader from Pana Illinois says her five year old son had a severe cold with lung involvement and terrible coughing spells.
