Cochise County to Redistrict Under New Laws

The Tombstone Prospector reports Cochise County will adopt supervisoral districting on January 1 under the new district and legislative laws. Douglas Bisbee and the remaining county would form three districts with equal population, giving voters clearer representation and two additional representatives, totaling nine. A Mexican commission may survey Southern Pacific property losses for reparations, with 2,000 claims noted. Southern Pacific alleged fault in $16,000,000 of damages. Signposting the Desert by the US Geological Survey

The US Geological Survey surveyed sixty thousand square miles of desert across southern California and southwestern Arizona to locate water sources along 350 miles of the national frontier. Four two-person teams gathered 160 water samples for analysis, mapped geography and groundwater, and erected galvanized iron water signs at 138 Arizona sites showing names distances and directions to watering places.

Death of Mrs. Elinor Scott Goetz in this place

Mrs Elinor Scott Goetz died at her home after a few weeks illness. Wife of Chas E Goetz she leaves a five month old son, her mother and father, and a brother. Remains were taken to Chicago for interment. husband and child accompanied them to the city. The community extends sympathy to Mr Goetz.

Salt River peanut crop grows to 1000 acres this year

The Salt River valley peanut acreage rose to 1000 this year from a few casual acres last year. The crop yields up to 200 pounds per acre and sells at 17 cents. Most nuts are consumed locally, especially in peanut butter, with a large Phoenix factory manufacturing it.

The Schmidt home at St David welcomed Santa Claus when he finally arrived after Benson visitors C L Rucker and family, Miss Anna Schmidt, and others. The tree was laden with gifts and presents overflowed the floor as the morning turned festive. Santa earned praise despite a late arrival.
