Benson Resident Jus R Norton Dies After Paralyzing Stroke

Old time Benson resident Jus R Norton died at his home after a paralytic stroke. Survived by unmarried children Roy and Anita. seven children total. He moved from Tennessee to Arkansas then Texas, Arizona in 1892, first Willcox then Phoenix, then Benson where he ran a hay grain and corral business. Interment in Benson Cemetery with M E Church rites. Roy to run the business.

Reyes Martinez Weds Margarita Salazar in Tombstone Church

Reyes Martinez of Mineral Hill and Margarita Salazar of Benson were married at the Tombstone Catholic church last Saturday, Rev. Fr. Cullymore officiating. The couple’s relatives accompanied the wedding party, and a dinner was given by Loretta Martinez after the ceremony. They will reside at Mineral Hill near Twin Buttes, where Martinez has mining interests with his brothers.

Clean Up Day Postponed By Town Meeting

Last week meeting set aside a town clean up day for today the 15th but many are away so it is postponed until next Saturday. Citizens and property owners are urged to begin chores in the meantime cleaning yards vacant lots and rubbish piles. Robert Wallace visitor from Boulder Cole and Harold Gribble hosted friends Tuesday evening at the Walker residence with dancing games ice cream and cake. Brown Implements Dry Farm Transformation on Ranch

Mr. D. W. Brown, a mile north of town on the former Schardin place, is steadily transforming his ranch. He has prepped land for dry farming pending water development, completed a vice residence, and added improvements. Despite a backward season, his garden thrives with large radishes peas blooming and other crops progressing well.

Benson Water Company hosts Mexican style feed at water works

Frank Treat hosted a social at the Benson Water Works with friends enjoying pipian de gallina frijoles tortillas and coffee. Attendees included Milton Fairlee Miguel Castaneda W J Bennett Pete McDaniel and several others plus Dario Martinez Dr K B Thompson and Mrs P H Pederson visiting from Racine Wisconsin. A notice offers twenty acres of Benson Canal land for sale with two years free clearing or easy terms via Horace P. Merrill.

Ladies Aid Society meeting discusses April 28 cafeteria

The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church met with Mrs. C. F. Moss Friday afternoon. Two visitors, Mrs. Dempsey of Tucson and Mrs. Clemans of Mesa, both Benson girls, attended. They discussed the cafeteria dinner planned for Friday April 28 and will announce further details next week.

Cattleman Busenbark Sells Interest Then Quick Buyout

J A Busenbark of Cochise sold his cattle interest to partner W A Fiege and within minutes bought out another owner. He took over the Spike H, F W Bar and 74 cattle from P P Page of Willcox while keeping his Dra gon home ranch. Chas E Goetz left for an extended trip to Buffalo New York via Houston New Orleans and the Southern route.

Jones boy injured in horseback fall near Norton corral

Irbin Jones age 16 son of Mr and Mrs Frank Jones and Johnny Carroll were riding with loose rein when Carroll spurred the horse causing it to back and throw both riders head first to the ground. Jones suffered a severe head bruise and possible internal injury later ruled untimely. He was treated by Dr Morrison then taken home near the High School. Carroll was less seriously hurt. Jones shows improving condition.
