Residents push Nw. Bensenville flood and stench concerns

Northwest Bensenville Homeowners Association president Jerry Bochniak told trustees that west of Route 83 and north of Irving Park Road faced flooded basements and a strong septic odor from fields to the west after Spruce Street lift station flooded again. The board asked the DuPage County Health Department to investigate. Public Works discussed relocating a compressor to Spruce Street lift station, and noted potential elimination of Spruce Street with deep Irving Park sewer work. Officials blamed inadequate storm drainage and sump pumps discharging into the sanitary sewer, and considered smoke tests and a village ordinance to keep surface water out of sewers plus a possible special-assessment storm sewer.
