The Mt Anthony Union high school auditorium overflowed with more than 100 musicians presenting eight works by Carl Ruggles in a tribute to a local innovator. Though unable to attend, Ruggles heard the performance by a bedside telephone hookup. The centerpiece Sun-Treader was played twice, and Gov. Hoff presented the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts to John Kirkpatrick for delivering the tribute.
