President Ford opened an inflation summit promising openness to new ideas but ruled out wage price controls. Senate Leader Mansfield urged mandatory curbs on wages prices rents and profits while House Speaker Albert criticized past monetary restraint as insufficient. A walkout was planned by Ralph Nader to protest consumer representation.
President Ford dedicated the 15 acre LBJ Memorial Grove on the Potomac across from Washington a living tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson. Mrs Johnson joined Ford in planting a pine as a pink Texas granite shaft with Johnson quotes marks the site. The ceremony included remarks echoing Jackson and Johnson legacies with Gov Briscoe Speaker Albert and others in attendance.

Two UCLA doctors reviewed Nixon at Long Beach Memorial Hospital and decided against changing anticoagulant therapy for a blood clot in his lung. The former president remains under treatment for phlebitis and embolism while doctors monitor diagnostic tests and project a hospital stay into mid to late next week.
The Justice Department ruled Charles W. Colson does not yet qualify for a presidential pardon and cannot obtain one unless a waiver is ordered by President Ford. Colson, serving 1 to 3 years for obstructing justice, was the first Watergate figure to seek a pardon after Nixon's pardon. Gordon Strachan asked a court to dismiss charges at the Watergate trial, arguing publicity harms a fair trial.
Boston reports that a handful of individuals believed to threaten Kennedy children are under daily FBI observation. Authorities say up to nine people may be involved, mostly from New England, with one from New Hampshire, and no arrests expected imminently.
The First National Bank of Boston chief economist Dr. James M. Howell urged a four point plan to revive Massachusetts and New England economies. He called for housing support from the Federal Home Loan Bank, promotion of Massachusetts interests in Washington, higher capital spending by small firms, and active pursuit of foreign investment while reshaping local governance to regional development.
Vermont Senatorial hopeful Patrick J. Leahy faces scrutiny as Gov. Salmon orders a separate probe into his ruling that a Burlington police shooting was justifiable homicide. The investigation, led by Public Safety Commissioner Col. Edward Corcoran, follows reaction from Leahy's office and clashes with critics including the ACLU over the back-head shooting of Luis M. Ponce Jr. by a Burlington detective.
