Hearings Set on Senate Reapportionment Plan Debate
Hearings on Vermont's Senate reapportionment will begin September 29 at Burlington City Hall with sessions 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Additional hearings in Montpelier St Johnsburg Manchester Woodstock and other towns will follow. The plan, from the Legislative Apportionment Board, would base districts on population around 15 000, creating multi member and single member districts including Burlington three member and Rutland two member districts. The Vermont Supreme Court has ruled the current apportionment unconstitutional under the one person one vote standard and the legislature is expected to act on a revised plan.
