Glidden Tour Brings 300 Pre1929 Autos To Manchester

Hundreds of antique auto enthusiasts from across the United States converged on Manchester for the 23rd Glidden Tour at Equinox House. Some 750 participants registered, with 500 cars housed at the inn complex as two groups tour Southern Vermont in 1913 and earlier models and 1914 to 1929 vehicles. A standout is a 1924 Wasp Rickshaw-Victoria owned by Keith Marvin of Troy, New York, reportedly one of only two in existence. The event, revived in 1945 after a 10 year 1914 hiatus, features host club Connecticut Region VMCA and organizer Robert A. Rodriguez, who has worked on the tour for 114 years and owns 18 antique cars.

Major Disaster Averted After Goof With Gasoline Tank

In East Greenbush New York a gasoline overflow near Teller's Crossing forced a four square mile evacuation and road closures after a Sun Oil Co storage tank overflowed during barge pumping. About 10 000 gallons spilled prompting firefighting and police action to drain fuel and prevent explosions. Trains slowed and lingering fumes remained late Sunday.

In Athens the military regime released former prime ministers George Papandreou and Panayotis Kanellopoulous from house arrest and freed four civilian government members.
