Quiet Meeting As BCA Hears More Appeals
SHAFTSBURY The Board of Civil Authority heard 12 tax appeals in a quiet town meeting at the town clerk's office. Temporary chair Frances Stacy led as Chairman Bernard McCarthy was absent, with complaints over inequities in assessments. Applicants said they would pay their assessed amounts if neighbors’ properties were equally appraised. Attorneys Margaret Lillie and John H. Williams II represented clients. A BCA committee will view the properties under review. Officers elected and plans discussed include a tentative schedule for future meetings and College and Career Night set for Oct. 19, with last year drawing over 300 attendees and a Sept. 22 meeting inviting program ideas.
