Onion Field review probes Wambaugh novel's method
Christopher Lehmann-Haupt weighs Joseph Wambaugh's The Onion Field a dramatic reconstruction that raises questions about nonfiction novel techniques and authorial imagination. He concludes the book is an impressive, reflective reportorial slice of 1960s America despite initial doubts about law and order framing.

Of God and Man Boredom as Deadly Sin in Early Church
Louis Cassels summarizes how accidia or spiritual boredom was deemed a deadly sin by early church fathers. The piece explores boredom as a state that alienates from self, others, and God, urging vigilance against spiritual torpor, and connects to modern media’s forays into sensitive human stories. It also notes a church harvest tag sale hosted by The Woman's Society of the First Baptist Church with antiques, foods, and donations.
