Vermonters Seek Tax on Gifts to Officials
Washington UPI report notes Senator James M. Jeffords proposes treating gifts valued at 100 or more to congressmen and public officials as taxable income. He would tax such gifts to discourage acceptance and enable IRS enforcement, with relatives and non-stakeholders exempt. Senator Robert Stafford backs a National Construction Industry Bargaining Committee to curb chaotic bargaining, granting veto-like power to national leaders and a 30 day cooling off period before strikes.
