Ford Says Government Should Not Be Held Hostage

President Ford denounced the attempt on his life and warned the government of the people must not be held hostage at the point of a gun. He spoke to about 800 delegates at a White House conference on domestic policy, recalling the Sacramento shooting by Lynette Fromme of the Manson family. Police searched Kiel Auditorium vicinity for a gunman seen near the venue.
