Shaftsbury Man Promotes United States Katahdin Woolless Sheep
Paul Jepson and his wife Margaret run Margeau Farm on White Creek Road, Shaftsbury, home to about one third of the nation’s Katahdin sheep. The woolless hair sheep, developed in Maine, are bred for meat with year round breeding potential, and Jepson claims they grow faster and require less maintenance than conventional wool breeds. He notes state and local challenges, including dog and coyote predation, hard work, and slow industry adoption, but plans continued Katahdin breeding to expand markets such as fall lambing and potential Easter sales.

Atlantic Fish Market to Close After 50 Years of Troy Trade
In Troy the Atlantic Fish and Fruit Market on Congress Street at Fifth Avenue will shut down after more than half a century of operation. Founded in 1924 by Frank Prezio and later run by brothers Joe and Sal, it was among Troy’s last remaining large fish markets as a once-thriving seafood district dwindled. The decline follows a broader loss of local fish trade and changing shopping habits.
