Senate panel warns costs may impair national security
The Senate Armed Services Committee warns U S weapons are now too costly and complex to ensure adequate national defense even with higher budgets. A $21 billion procurement bill is cited as an example of price inflation, noting tanks costs four times higher than a decade ago and air munitions costing hundreds of thousands per round. The panel urges cost reductions to maintain force levels and compare unfavorably with potential adversaries.
